A Hamilton native, Tim St. Pierre grew up competing football, track & field and hockey. In fact, Tim was drafted by the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League and attended their training camp. He was also a competitive kick-boxer and won a gold medal at the under-21 world championships in 2001 and a silver in 2002.
He played four years of university football at Saint Mary’s and was selected in the 2008 CFL Draft by the Edmonton Eskimos.
St. Pierre spent three seasons as a linebacker and long snapper for the Green and Gold and was the team’s Special Teams Player of the Year nominee in 2010.
He joined the Stampeders before the 2011 season and was converted to a running back. He scored his first CFL touchdown on July 20, 2013 on a pass from Bo Levi Mitchell.
Want to know more about Tim St. Pierre? We asked him to finish the following sentences with the first thing that came to mind to help us get to know him a little bit better.
I have always wanted to… skydive. It is something I have always wanted to do but every year that I procrastinate I get a little more scared. So I don’t think I’ll actually get around to this one.
The last time I apologized was… was probably for saying something dumb when I was hungry.
The last chore I did was… I can’t remember — they’re endless. My wife and I bought a new home recently. We’re fortunate to have lots of help from family with the renovations, but it’s made for many runs to the dump and a lot of painting.
Scoring my first CFL touchdown was… shocking. I didn’t think (offensive coordinator) Dickie would ever give me the ball. But on a serious note, it was great because it contributed to a big comeback win for us.
Switching from defence to offence when I came to Calgary was… challenging. The first training camp made for long days but I’ve enjoyed the challenge and it’s been nice knowing the snap count for a change.
Special teams… are a big factor in winning games and what makes the CFL special. To be a good special teams unit you need coaches with high expectations and a group of guys with an aggressive mindset.
Getting drafted by the Eskimos was… rewarding. Getting an opportunity to do something you’ve dreamed of your entire life is rewarding and humbling. It is also rewarding for my family and all of the coaches who helped me get to that point.
Going to school at Saint Mary’s was… life-changing and a whole lot of good times. Football provided me the opportunity to get an education and Halifax made for a good university experience.
During the off-season I… recharge the batteries. It’s nice to forget about the previous season and do a little ice fishing. But by the time February hits I start chomping at the bit and counting down the days till the new season.
My favourite sport other than football is… hockey. I played my whole life and giving it up for football was the toughest decision I’ve had to make. But I’m still a big fan.
