Getting to know Shawn Lemon

David Moll

Shawn Lemon joined the Stampeders as 2013 training camp began and played in six games at defensive end.

He first came to the CFL as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and played in his first game on Sept. 11, 2011, against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

In 2012, Lemon played for the Edmonton Eskimos and shared the team-lead in quarterback sacks.

He also spent time in the Arena Football League and played his collegiate ball at Akron where he was a three-year starter for the Zips.

We asked Shawn to finish the following sentences with the first thing that came to mind to help us get to know him a little bit better.

Playing in my first CFL game was… very fun! I enjoyed every minute of it. It’s a very different game from Arena football and college football. One thing you realize is that you have to be in great shape to play in this league because of the short play clock. We also got the win over Winnipeg and I recorded my first CFL sack that game which made it even better!

Going to school at Akron… I got a chance to play division 1 football with my brother Marcus Lemon for two years. I also played on the same side of the defensive line with one of my best friends Almondo Sewell (Edmonton Eskimos) for four years.

The quarterback I’d most like to sack (past or present) is… John Hufnagel hahaha lol. I just think it would be a cool thing to do after sacking him pour up a tall glass of lemonade for the sack dance #Lemondrops

I spend the off-season… spending time with my family and friends and training with my trainer Fran Penny at Pinnacle Performance which is located in Waldorf, Md. Also training high school athletes on defensive line/linebacker position drills every Friday.

Playing in the Arena League was… when I really learned how to become a pro. It taught me to always do extra things to become a better player, not just only in the off-season but in the regular season as well.

Losing… in NBA 2K to Stanley Bryant was something that rarely happened last season. We would play NBA 2K almost every day during the season after practice and most of the time I’d always win.

The last coupon I used was… a free before 12 a.m. at the club lol

High school was… a great experience for me. I had the best defensive line coach in the state of Maryland — Marlon Curtis. I still do a lot of pass rush stuff with him as a pro. He helped me understand how to get to the quarterback at a young age.

The next vacation I will be taking… my talents to South Beach in April for four days. I plan to catch a Miami Heat game and enjoy the beautiful weather of Miami, Florida.

Teammates… and I talk on a regular basis in the off-season via group text with Edwin Harrison and Stanley Bryant. I also got a chance to hang out with Maurice Price when he and his brother took a trip to Washington D.C last week.
