Getting to know Rob Cote

David Moll

Rob Cote has played his entire seven-year CFL career with the Stampeders — a team he cheered for when he was a kid in the stands at McMahon Stadium.

Prior to signing with the Stamps as an undrafted free agent in 2007, Rob played two seasons for the Victoria Rebels in the British Columbia Football Conference and was the team’s MVP both years.

You may remember back to his rookie year when he scored a touchdown in his first-ever CFL game. You probably know that he played in his 100th game on July 26, 2013. You might also know that he got married on January 14, 2014.

But what do you really know about Rob Cote? We asked him to finish the following sentences to help us get to know him a little bit better.

Growing up in Cochrane was … awesome. You can ride your bike everywhere. You can do whatever you need to do with two feet and a heartbeat. There was always a lot of sports going on; it was a very active community and I loved it. Great people out there, great community, nothing but the best things to say.

Playing for the Victoria Rebels was… maybe even better than growing up in Cochrane! I honestly think I might’ve quit playing football for good if I didn’t find a situation like the Rebels provided me. They had some great guys out there from the executive down to the coaches and the way they took care of me and also my brother when we went out there was just phenomenal and I had the time of my life playing football there. I recommend it to anybody and everybody.

Married life is… great! Not much has changed. All it means is vacations and nice dinners to me so far. I’m very happy for this to just be the beginning of a long marriage.

I have always wanted to… swim at the bottom of a waterfall and I was able to do that on vacation a couple weeks back. I don’t know, that was something for some reason that just stuck out in my mind as a pretty cool thing to do. It was just as cool when I finally got to do it.

I own a lot of… stereo equipment. I love speakers and I love music and I love to be able to play it loud. So that’s one thing that my wife always says… I have too many cables but it’s just because she doesn’t know what they’re all for — a lot of speakers.

There’s no way I will ever… cheer for the Riders.

Playing on the Stamps basketball team is… a lot of fun. And a lot more work than you’d think it would be. The kids bring a lot of enthusiasm and they’re giving it their all and we have a ton of fun and they’re putting us to work.

The last website I visited was… to be honest probably Expedia. Always looking for the next vacation.

My first CFL game was… very, very memorable. Something I’ll never forget. It was very special to me and very unexpected to have the little amount of success that I did it my first game. For it to come that fast and in that fashion was something I’ll never forget.

Championships… I don’t enough of them. They’re difficult to get and I look forward to working for at least one more.
