There are a lot of words that could be used to describe the past week for Anthony Parker.
Eventful, to be sure.
Hectic, without a doubt.
And certainly life-altering.
“It’s been . . . interesting,” chuckled the 24-year-old Okotoks product.
On Saturday, Parker and his wife Patricia welcomed their second child — son D’Angelo Titus Parker, a baby brother for 27-month-old Abrielle.
“Abrielle is really excited about it,” said Parker. “The only thing is she doesn’t understand why she can’t play with him yet.”
The entire family, Parker reports, is doing well.
Then, on Tuesday, the receiver’s contract with the Calgary Stampeders officially expired and he became a free agent. But just a day into free agency, he opted to return to the Red and White.
“I thank the Stampeders for being patient with me and allowing me to test free agency,” said Parker. “But after thinking it over, I decided this was the best place for me. We’ve got a great team here and this is home for me, so my family is right here to support me. I’m really happy to be back.”
The former University of Calgary Dinos star is looking to build on a 2013 season in which he established career high in catches (21) and yards (217) while scoring his first two career touchdowns. That came on the heels of an injury-plagued sophomore season in which he suited up in only five games and didn’t record any receiving stats.
“That was such a frustrating season,” said Parker. “I can’t even describe it. But then I committed myself to doing the right things in regards to diet and working hard to stay healthy. As it turns out, last year I was able to get more opportunities when other guys were injured and it gave me a chance to expand my knowledge of the playbook.
“That was an important step for me and now I just want to build on that foundation. I’m looking forward to the season.”
