The Ottawa Redblacks have selected QB Kevin Glenn and OL J’Micheal Deane in Monday’s 2013 CFL Expansion Draft. The Redblacks play their inaugural season in 2014.
Import quarterback Kevin Glenn, who spent two seasons with the Stampeders, was selected by the Ottawa Redblacks in the first round of the expansion draft.
“Kevin has been a great contributor to our success the past two seasons and we wish him the best in Ottawa,” said Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel. “Kevin was a true professional on and off the field and I thank him for all the great things he has done for us.
“We’re sad to see Kevin go, but we’re confident that our quarterback situation is in good hands with Drew Tate and Bo Levi Mitchell, who benefitted a great deal from having been Kevin’s teammate these past two years.”
Glenn, 34, led the Stamps to the West final in each of his two seasons with the Stamps including an appearance in the 2012 Grey Cup. He was the starter in 20 regular-season victories, the best total of any CFL quarterback during that two-year period.
The Detroit, Mich., native, who joined the Stamps in a 2012 trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, completed 548 of 822 passes with the Red and White (a 66.7-per cent completion) for 6,930 yards and 43 touchdowns.
Non-import offensive lineman J’Micheal Deane was selected in the second round of the expansion draft.
“We wish J’Micheal the best of luck in Ottawa and thank him for everything he’s done for the Stampeders during his three seasons,” said Hufnagel.
Deane was drafted by Calgary in the third round (21st overall) in the 2010 CFL Canadian Draft. He joined the Stamps in 2011 and played 38 regular-season games over three seasons and saw action at both tackle and guard. He also saw action on the defensive side of the ball during his rookie season.
Non-import defensive back Eric Fraser was selected in the third and final round of the expansion draft.
“I want to thank Eric for all his contributions to the team over the past four seasons and I wish him all the best in Ottawa,” said Hufnagel. “It’s difficult to see quality players and people go, but Eric’s departure gives an opportunity for some of our young defensive backs to step up in 2014.”
Fraser was drafted by Calgary in the first round (eighth overall) in the 2009 CFL Canadian Draft. He joined the Stamps in 2010 and played 69 regular-season games over four seasons as a safety and on special teams. He recorded 108 tackles, 37 special-teams tackles, three sacks and five interceptions.
