Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the re-signing of import receiver Maurice Price. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The 28-year-old Price, who had been eligible to become a free agent on Feb. 15, made 13 starts for the Stampeders in 2013 and was second on the club in receptions (57), receiving yards (788) and touchdowns (seven). Among receivers with at least 20 catches, he led the team with an average of 13.8 yards per reception. For his efforts, he was named to the CFLPA all-star team.
His best single-game performance this past season came in a Labour Day Classic win over the Edmonton Eskimos as Price had five catches for 165 yards and three touchdowns to earn CFL offensive player-of-the-week honours.
“Maurice Price is a very talented player who has shown tremendous big-play ability over his two seasons with us,” said Hufnagel. “I look forward to seeing what Mo can do over a full season.”
In 19 regular-season games over two seasons with the Stampeders, Price has made 75 catches for 1,193 yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s added 19 catches for 327 yards and two touchdowns in four post-season contests.
Price originally joined the Stamps in 2009 and spent 10 weeks on the practice roster. In between Calgary stints, he was with the National Football League’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens.
“I’m very happy to get a deal done with the Stampeders,” said Price. “I really couldn’t see myself playing for anybody else. I’m glad to call Calgary home and my family and I are very happy to be staying.”
