Calgary Stampeders players have claimed three CFL player-of-the-month awards for October-November.

Running back Jon Cornish is a double winner, receiving both the offensive and Canadian awards for the final month of the regular season while kicker Rene Paredes is the special teams player of the month. It’s the third time in four months this season that Cornish has been named top Canadian and Paredes top special teams player.

Cornish had a spectacular closing month as he wrapped up his second consecutive CFL rushing title. In four October games, he carried the ball 71 times for 616 yards — an average of 8.7 yards per carry — and four touchdowns.

He surpassed the 100-yard mark in each of his October starts including a 208-yard effort against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Oct. 5. With Calgary having already secured first place in the West, Cornish saw limited action in the Stamps’ regular-season finale at BC on Nov. 1 as he carried the ball four times for 14 yards. He added eight catches 83 yards during the final month.

For the season, Cornish rushed for 1,813 yards — the fourth-best total in CFL history — and led the CFL in rushing, total touchdowns (14) and yards from scrimmage (2,157).

Meanwhile, Paredes was stellar in October/November, converting on 16 of 17 field goal tries and all 12 conversion attempts for a total of 60 points in five games. His strong finish allowed him to set a single-season CFL record with a 94.7-per cent success rate with 54 field goals of 57 tries.

Earlier in the season, he established a new league mark with 39 straight field-goal conversions. Paredes led the CFL in scoring this season with 213 points and became just the third player in Stampeders history to crack the 200-point milestone in a season.
