The Calgary Stampeders’ West Division-clinching victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday has produced a pair of CFL player-of-the-week awards.

Stamps running back Jon Cornish is the league’s top Canadian for a fourth straight week while defensive end Charleston Hughes is the defensive player of the week for the third time in 2013.

Cornish rushed for 109 yards in the Stamps’ Week 18 victory over the Roughriders and scored the game-winning touchdown with 1:48 remaining in the game. He also had two receptions for 12 yards as he broke Willie Burden’s 38-year-old franchise record for most yards from scrimmage in a season.

Cornish leads the CFL in both rushing yards (1,799) and yards from scrimmage (2,143). He has been named a CFL weekly award winner nine times this season — twice as offensive player of the week and seven times as Canadian player of the week.

On the other side of the ball, Hughes is the CFL’s defensive player of the week after his three-sack effort against Saskatchewan. He finished the game with five tackles and helped limit Roughriders running back Kory Sheets to 42 yards on 11 carries. 

Hughes leads the CFL with 18 sacks and is one sack away from tying Harold Hallman’s team record of 19 sacks in a season. The six-year veteran has six multiple-sack games in 2013.
