The top teams in the Canadian Football League go head-to-head in a critical late-season game at McMahon Stadium on Saturday as the Calgary Stampeders take on the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.

The Stamps lead the West Division with a league-best 13-3 record and would clinch top spot and a bye into the West final with a victory. Saskatchewan is 11-5 and needs a win to keep its division title hopes alive.

Calgary (513 points) and Saskatchewan (468) own the CFL’s most productive offences and are also the only teams to surrender fewer than 400 points.

The Stamps carry a four-game winning streak into the showdown, with the most recent victory being Friday’s 27-13 decision at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium. The Roughriders were 35-14 winners at home against the BC Lions in Week 17 play.

Saturday’s contest features the league’s top two running backs as Calgary’s Jon Cornish goes into the game with a 134-yard lead over Saskatchewan’s Kory Sheets in the battle for the CFL rushing title. Cornish leads all running backs with a 7.2 yards-per-carry average while Sheets has a 12-11 edge on his Stamps counterpart in rushing touchdowns.

Cornish is within striking distance of a pair of single-season franchise records. With two games remaining in the regular season, he needs 207 rushing yards and 106 yards from scrimmage (combined rushing and receiving yards) to break the marks of 1,896 and 2,127 set by Willie Burden in 1975.

This is the third and final regular-season meeting of 2013 for the rivals as the Roughriders were 36-21 winners in Regina on July 5 while the Stamps claimed a 42-27 decision over Saskatchewan on Aug. 9 at McMahon.

Calgary is 7-1 at home while the Roughriders sport a 5-3 road record. Both teams are 6-2 in division play.

The first 10,000 fans entering the stadium wearing red on Saturday will receive a pair of thundersticks courtesy of PinkWood, Calgary’s leader in fire-resistant building products.
