We caught up with defensive lineman Freddie Bishop III who played in his first CFL on Aug. 9 against the Riders.
How was it playing your first game in the CFL last weekend?
It was a lot of fun. It was a lot different; a new experience and I’m loving it.
You went up against the Stampeders’ top rival in the Saskatchewan Roughriders for your first game. Was it at all intimidating?
It was unique. It was fun actually, to beat the team rival; especially with it being my first game in the CFL. Going up against such a big rival and good team — being able to hold my own — it was a great stepping stone in continuing to elevate my game while I’m over here.
How would you rate your performance in your first game?
I’ve got to watch the film. Of course I’m going to feel like I did good but there is always room for improvement; always things I can do better.
How has the adjustment to the Canadian game been?
I feel like I’m getting it but like you say, it is a big adjustment. The yard (off the ball) difference and the three downs, it’s an adjustment, but I feel like I’m getting it and doing good.
Tell us about being in Canada. How is it treating you so far?
Canada is treating me real well, I have no complaints.
Last question, who is your football hero?
Oh man, my biggest hero? Shout out to “Big Ray” Ray Lewis. He held it down (as a top linebacker) for so long.
