The Calgary Stampeders announce that non-import fullback Wilkerson DeSouza has been added to the club’s practice roster.
DeSouza was selected in the sixth round (45th overall) by the Stampeders in the 2012 CFL Canadian Draft. Originally a linebacker, he made the switch to fullback and spent the 2012 season on Calgary’s practice roster. DeSouza attended 2013 training camp with the Stamps and was released on June 22.
DeSouza played four seasons for the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, playing the defensive line position before making the switch to linebacker in 2010. For his university career, he played 29 games and made 192 total tackles, including 173 solo tackles and also contributed five sacks, three fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles and one interception. DeSouza was named the Blues’ most valuable and inspirational player in 2011 and was an Ontario University Athletics conference all-star after compiling 47 solo tackles, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and two pass break-ups.
