Seeing his first action since week four, Stamps veteran quarterback Kevin Glenn entered tonight’s match up with a clear state of mind.
“They always say you didn’t play as bad as you think you did or as good as everyone tells you,” claims the savvy veteran. “I think the biggest thing was just us staying together as a team.”
With two weeks off and coming up against an undefeated team, Glenn insists preparation for this week’s contest was not unlike any other game.
“We knew this was going to a hardfought game,” he says. “They’re a very good team — they didn’t go 5-0 by coincidence. We knew we were going to have a battle.”
Glenn and his Stampeders teammates did, in fact, win the battle and now find themselves in a tie for first place in the CFL’s West Division. In Friday’s 42-27 victory, the Red and White found success on both sides of the ball by playing a complete 60-minute game.
“We played to the very end — the only game this season we didn’t finish was the game against them in Saskatchewan,” says Glenn.
Unlike in Week 2, the Stamps made sure to not let tonight’s victory slip away with a sluggish second half. Glenn maintains his team was prepared for a strong second-half push from the visiting Roughriders.
“The guys stuck together, we all have faith in one another,” said the 13-year CFL vet. “We knew we were going to have these kind of ups and downs, but it’s about how you respond to them.”
The Stampeders did respond, starting with a defence that only allowed CFL leading rusher, Kory Sheets, eight yards on the ground after the first half.
“When the defence makes plays with turnovers, sacks, field position,” says Glenn, “as an offence it’s motivation.”
