Fresh off his record-setting hot dog-eating performance on July 4, Joey Chestnut, the world’s top-ranked eater, will be at Calgary’s Aug. 9 home game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders to take on fans in the Joey’s All-Stars Fish Taco World-Record Challenge.
Officially sanctioned by Major League Eating, this five-minute, all-you-can-eat, fish tacos competition will take place at McMahon Stadium during halftime of the game. Fans of both the Stampeders and Roughriders will also take part in the event.
“Our Fish Taco is amazing – worthy of a world record,” said Dave Holland, VP Marketing & Design for Joey’s Seafood Restaurants. “We are happy to add to the interprovincial rivalry and are very excited to see which eating team will rise to the occasion and dominate off the field.”
Chestnut is currently having another record-breaking year. He’s set world records in the chili and ice cream-eating disciplines and set the record of a lifetime when he downed 69 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes at the 2013 Nathan’s Famous July 4th Hot Dog Eating-Contest. However, he has never set a record in fish tacos. History could be made on Aug. 9.
“2013 is shaping up to be one of Joey’s best years,” said George Shea, Chairman of Major League Eating. “However, fish tacos are not his strongest discipline. Joey could very well set another record or we could see a David vs. Goliath upset in Calgary.”
