Stamps back to work after bye

After enjoying a bye this past week, the Stampeders were back on the field at McMahon Stadium on Sunday. Coach Huff addressed the media after practice and here are excerpts of his comments.

On the bye week

It was good. A good time to relax but also a time to study our football team and see what we’re good at and see the things we need to get better at. Now we had a practice to work at the things we need to get better at.

On what areas he feels the team needs to work at

(Laughing) I think I’ll let the opposing team coaches figure that out.

On the quarterbacking situation (Drew Tate and Kevin Glenn were both injured prior to the bye week, with Bo Levi Mitchell getting the start in Week 5)

All three quarterbacks threw the ball and they’re all ready to play. That’s something we haven’t had for a few weeks. It puts you back in the comfort position where you can call on any one of the three. You know how physical the game is. Drew was able to play in the last game, he just wasn’t going to be at 100 per cent. Fortunately, Bo stepped up as a lot of young players have done for this football team and played football in a winning fashion.

Does Drew Tate reclaim his starting job this week?

Yes. That’s not even a question I should have to answer.

Does your mindset about the utilization of the quarterbacks change after seeing Bo Levi Mitchell perform?

Why would my mindset change (based) on the action of one game versus another guy who got us to the Grey Cup last year? I’ll play the quarterback until I believe a change is needed. Whoever that is and whenever that is, that’s up to me to figure out during game day.

What is the status of Marvin Booker?

Marvin is on his way to Tampa Bay. (The Buccaneers) invited him down to their training camp. They called and told me they were interested and he was on our practice roster. I had the decision whether to sign the young man or let him have this opportunity. He’s a guy who we would be very interested to bring back (if the opportunity arises). He was very appreciative of the time he was able to spend here and he’d have no problem coming back.
