Calgary Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell has been named the Canadian Football League’s offensive player of the week for Week 5.
In his first CFL start on Friday in Winnipeg, Mitchell completed 29 of 33 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns in leading the Stampeders to a 37-24 victory over the Blue Bombers. The 23-year-old Katy, Tex., native, who stepped up in the absence of injured veteran quarterbacks Drew Tate and Kevin Glenn, also had 12 rushing yards as he helped the Stamps improve to 4-1 on the season.
This marks the fifth time a Stamps player has been honoured by the CFL this season. Kicker Rene Paredes was named the league’s special teams player of the week for both Week 3 and Week 4 while Jon Cornish (top Canadian) and Charleston Hughes (top defensive player) were honoured for their play in a Week 1 victory over the BC Lions.
