The Calgary Stampeders announce that import defensive lineman Freddie Bishop has been added to the club’s practice roster.
Bishop, who attended the Stampeders’ open tryout camp in Tampa, Fla. this spring, played four years at Western Michigan at defensive end. His senior year in 2012 he was named the Broncos’ outstanding team player after starting all 12 games and racking up 63 tackles, including 11.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks. He was named second-team Mid-American Conference.
The Michigan native signed with the NFL’s Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent in May of 2013 and also attended rookie mini-camp with the Green Bay Packers.
