Keon returns to practice

It was a good scene at McMahon Stadium on Monday as all-star Keon Raymond was back practising. The veteran missed the Stamps’ season-opening win over the BC Lions because of an ankle injury.

“He made good progress today,” head coach and general manager John Hufnagel told the media after practice. “He ran well. So we’ll have a few more days of evaluation to see how we want to stack up the defensive backfield.”

Coach Huff has a nice problem in his hands as newly signed Jonathan Hefney, who filled in for Raymond at the SAM position on Friday, led the team with 10 tackles.

“That’s what helped us be successful last year,” said Hufnagel. “We did have some flexibility of bringing people in to play different positions. Versatility was huge for us last year and I expect that to be the same this year.”

On the downside, non-import defensive lineman Corey Mace sat out practice with a shoulder injury.

“He has yet to see the doctor,” said Hufnagel, “but there is a tear. We just need to see the doctor once he gets back into town and see what direction we want to take with it.”
