Life is busy with four kids

Trevor is by far the best father I could have asked for our kids. We have four kids ages seven, six, three and two. Life with four kids can be crazy for sure; however, things changed forever with the birth of our fourth child.

Avery was born with Trisomy 21, better known as Down Syndrome. Avery is a blessing to our family and we wouldn’t change anything about him, however through it all Trevor has continued to work and support our family.

Avery has been hospitalized three times here in Calgary. Once was over Father’s Day 2011 — when he should have had all kids at home, he was divided between hospital and home with kids in both places that needed him the most. Once in Edmonton for open-heart surgery at 10 months old, Trevor stood by his child’s side and tried to spend what time he could with the other three kids.

Although Avery is now two years old and thriving in all areas, Trevor continues to spend what time he can with his four kids while working a full-time job. This week alone, Trevor has been to physio class with Avery on Monday, an all-day field trip to Fish Creek Park with our son’s Grade 2 class, worked Wednesday and Thursday, and Friday is another all-day field trip to Heritage Park with our daughter’s Grade 1 class. On Friday he went to the Stampeders pre-season game with our oldest son and then Saturday was a 3K run in Fish Creek Park for Street Meet 2013 — a fundraiser for Ups and Downs Calgary Down Syndrome Association. He then went to work Sunday and started it all over again Monday.

This is our life and through it all he still finds time to help clean the house, spend time with the kids and cook supper. Even with a day off from work he is still working in one way or another, even if it means giving me a day to spend at home while he takes kids to school and therapy and grocery shops (I don’t remember the last time I did that job). Trevor’s great and with everything he has been through and we have been through as a family, he deserves a great Father’s Day for 2013.
