As part of Father’s Day celebrations earlier this month, we asked Stamps fans to tell us why they think they have the best father. We got an overwhelming number of responses and after much deliberation we picked a winner whose story is below. Tim and his dad, Herb, will be on the sidelines for a pre-game experience this Friday when the Stamps host the BC Lions in the season-opener.
Dad and I have forged the best father/son relationship over the past 41 years. He’s my idol, he’s my hero and he’s everything I’ve ever wanted to be in life. Rumour has it, he thinks I’m pretty OK too.
As a youngster, it always seemed that dad was around. I don’t know how he always found the time, but he was always there — as a leader in Cub Scouts, as a coach on the baseball team. He was always there to help make the coolest Halloween costume, he was always making sure that the family got away in the summer for a week or two of camping. He was always there for a game of catch, he was always there to drive us to the swimming pool or the roller-rink.
As I grew into my teens, he always seemed to have no problem throwing me the truck keys — while he took the bus. He was always there, laughing along with my buddies and me as we proceeded to find trouble and he always was there to bail us out.
As I grew into an adult, he was always there to help me move, or to help me make my rent or help me mend a broken heart.
And today, he’s always there to lend support in the trials and tribulations that a middle-aged man finds in a tough and unrelenting world. He is THE MAN. I don’t know what I would do without him.
Over the years, it seems harder and harder to find the time to get together and share the bond that we have. However, as the days get longer and it is evident that summer is around the corner, dad and I get excited knowing that we have our time, four or five hours every couple of weeks to go to McMahon and enjoy watching our beloved Red and White take the field against the best the CFL has to offer. It’s our time; it’s sacred time. And it’s a part of our lives that I wouldn’t give up. For anything. Ever.
This is why my Dad, Herb McMullen, is the best Father ever. He’s everything I want to be.
Tim McMullen
First runner-up:
Trevor is by far the best father I could have asked for our kids. We have four kids ages seven, six, three and two. Life with four kids can be crazy for sure; however, things changed forever with the birth of our fourth child.
Avery was born with Trisomy 21, better known as Down Syndrome. Avery is a blessing to our family and we wouldn’t change anything about him, however through it all Trevor has continued to work and support our family.

Second runner-up:
I am writing to enter the best daddy I have ever met. Andrew has devoted his life to his three-year-old son Benny. Benny always comes first; anything and everything comes after.
Andrew has turned down many amazing career choices to raise his little munchkin. Andrew’s world revolves around Benny. Benny is one of the most amazing little boys because of the upbringing Andrew has given him. Benny is the most polite, well-spoken, and well-rounded little three-year-old I have ever met.
