Entering his second season with the Stampeders, Bo Levi Mitchell is looking to build onto his promising rookie season.
Used primarily as the Stamps’ short-yardage and goal-line quarterback, Mitchell saw enough action as a thrower to create intrigue about what might lie ahead.
But what do you really know about Bo Levi Mitchell? We asked him to finish the following sentences to help us get to know him a little bit better.
I have always wanted to… play the PGA tour. I’ve always thought it would be fun to play with Tiger and all those guys and see how you compete with them. I’m alright at golf. I’m not the best on the team. You’ve got Brad Sinopoli and Chris Bauman — those guys are ringers. They can put the ball exactly where they want to. But I’m trying to get better at it.
My first year in the CFL was… a blast because of the camaraderie of the team. Obviously, getting to travel all the way to the Grey Cup, it was huge deal for me getting to see that and experience that in my first year.
Going to Eastern Washington was… a huge stepping stone for me because a lot of people thought going down (a division) would be a bad thing, but going to Eastern Washington was great because we got to win a national championship and I got to win national player of the year award. So things like that always help you out later on in your career, so it was huge.
I really dislike… that I can’t eat sweets during training camp. You’ve got to eat healthy, you’ve got to keep your body right, you’ve got to make sure you’re staying in shape, so you always miss out on that kind of thing.
In the off-season I… trained hard. I got ready for the season. I hung out with a couple of the other players, you know (Edmonton’s) JC Sherritt and (Hamilton’s) Greg Peach. We all worked out together. Just getting ready for the season to start.
Being a quarterback… is the funnest thing there is. A lot of kids, you always grow up in your backyard throwing the ball around, acting like you’re Peyton Manning and whatnot, so it’s always a fun thing to get to come out here and do a job every day that you’ve always wanted to do your whole life.
There is no way I will ever… go on a cruise. Being out on the open water all the time, I’m not a big fan of it. I don’t know. I watch Shark Week too much.
Calgary… is amazing. It’s my favourite place I’ve ever played. The fans just love football out here and, especially in such a hockey-oriented country, it’s amazing to just come out here and see how much everybody loves it out here and loves us. So it’s a fun thing to do.
Growing up in Texas… I learned a lot. I was raised, being a country boy, to be respectful. And football’s the No. 1 thing. You live, eat, breathe it, so playing football in Texas was probably the best thing that ever was.
Championships… is what it’s about. It’s what you’re remembered for. It’s what they’re going to read back on later in life, so you’ve got to go out and win as many championships as you can. But to do that, you’ve got to start in the pre-season and start in the off-season, so it’s coming up.
