Entering his sixth year with the Stampeders, Keon Raymond is coming off a stellar 2012 season in which he was named both a West Division and CFLPA all-star.
Last season, he led the team and was second in the league with five interceptions including one he returned 100 yards for a touchdown. He also led Calgary with seven pass knockdowns and recorded 44 tackles, including two tackles for loss, and two sacks.

Raymond had five interceptions last year, including this one on Sept. 28 against the Eskimos. |
You probably know that Raymond just received his second Presidents’ Ring for his excellence on and off the field. You may remember that he set a Stamps record for longest interception return with a 117-yard dash for a touchdown in 2011 against the Riders. You certainly know that he won a Grey Cup with the Stampeders in 2008.
But what do you really know about Keon Raymond? We asked him to finish the following sentences to help us get to know him a little bit better.
There is no way I will… jump out of a perfectly good airplane. No way.
College… was probably some of the best times of my life, at the beginning of my life. The interesting people you get to meet, the college football atmosphere – it was just amazing going out there. Plus you got the chance to either go to class or not go to class (laughs).
Playing in my first CFL game… I was nervous. I was scared. But I was excited as well. I actually scored a touchdown in my first CFL game, so that was pretty fun.
Winning the Presidents’ Ring again… is humbling. It’s definitely a great opportunity and I think, with that being said, I’m among a list of some pretty cool guys.
The Grey Cup… is ours this year. We’ve been a team destined for it and I think it’s about our time. We got close to the hump, but I think we’re going to get over it this year.
Growing up in Missouri… was tough. It was cold. It was hot. It was good though. It was a good experience for me to eventually become the man I am today with the background I had to go through. My mom and my dad still live in St. Louis. My wife’s parents still live in St. Louis. Grandparents, everybody still lives in St. Louis. We plan on going back there this year for the bye week, but I don’t want to stay too long.
Teammates… some are cool, some are annoying – aka Nik Lewis (laughs). A teammate is just a guy that I call a brother and I appreciate coming in each and every day working with.
Playing cornerback… is fun until they stop throwing the ball my way. It’s a position I’ve always played as a kid, in high school, in college. To be a shutdown corner, you hang your hat on that. There’s a lot of pride involved in that.
My kids… are the world to me. I love them to death. They make me laugh. I make them laugh. They annoy me sometimes and bug me sometimes, but I wouldn’t trade them in for the world.
Designing my own hat… is a pretty cool privilege. Hopefully some of my teammates like it. Some might not. I put probably a little bit too much of me in it. But if they wanted to put some of them in it, they probably should’ve been picked. But I was picked, so…
Note: The New Era hat Keon designed will hit Stamps Store shelves this summer!
