The CFL Combine presented by Reebok was held in Toronto this past weekend where 55 of the nation’s top prospects set out to prove themselves in front of general managers, scouts and coaches from all the CFL teams.
Bishop’s defensive lineman Elie Ngoyi flirted with a record – benching 225 pounds 40 times, the second highest total in combine history. His 40 reps on the bench press tied Wilfrid Laurier running back Mike Montoya and was seven short of the record set in 2011 by another Golden Hawk, offensive lineman Michael Knill.
Kristopher Robertson, a defensive back out of Concordia, was invited to the Combine only after having a strong showing in the Regional Combine in Quebec City on Friday. The late invite made the most of his opportunity, leading all participants in three categories including longest broad jump (10’5.50″), highest vertical jump (43″) and fastest 40-yard dash (4.423).
Calgary Dinos defensive lineman Linden Gaydosh finished second overall in the bench press with a personal best 36 reps. His strong showing at the Combine solidified his chances of going high in this year’s draft.
Another Calgary Dino who raised eyebrows over the weekend is linebacker Mike Edem. He finished fourth in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.566.
The 2013 CFL Canadian Draft takes place on Monday, May 6 at 10 a.m. MDT on TSN. The Stampeders have seven selections in this year’s draft including the seventh overall pick and two spots in the second round.
