No. 9 makes it nine awards

Stampeders running back Jon Cornish has been named the Canadian Football League’s Canadian player of the week for his play in the Stamps’ 34-29 victory over the BC Lions in Sunday’s West Division final.

Cornish has made three post-season starts in his professional career and has been named the league’s top Canadian on each occasion. For a third consecutive playoff game, he surpassed the 100-yard mark in rushing as he accumulated 112 yards against the Lions. The total included a 16-yard run in the final minute of play that helped clinch the game for Calgary.

Cornish also had two catches for 42 yards against BC.

It’s the ninth time this season Cornish has been named the CFL’s Canadian player of the week including twice in a row in the 2012 playoffs. The running back has also been named offensive player of the week once and Canadian of the month on three occasions.
