For the sixth time this season, Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish is the CFL’s Canadian player of the week.
Cornish is being honoured after rushing for 180 yards — the second-highest total of his career — in the Stampeders’ 39-15 win over the Edmonton Eskimos on Friday. The performance allowed the six-year veteran to become the eighth Canadian in CFL history to surpass the 1,000-yard mark in a single season. Cornish now has 1,127 yards on the season and leads the CFL rushing race by 205 yards.
Cornish also had three catches in the win over Edmonton.
Dating back to Week 14 of the 2011 season, Cornish has claimed the top Canadian weekly honour in nine of the 20 most recent games he has played. Cornish was also the CFL’s top Canadian in August and the top offensive player in Week 7.
