Cornish does it again

Jon Cornish continues to collect Canadian Football League awards as the Calgary Stampeders running back has been named the Canadian player of the week for Week 10.

It’s the second week in a row, the third time in the past four weeks and the fourth time overall this season Cornish has been named the league’s top Canadian. Dating back to Week 14 of last season, Cornish has claimed the top Canadian honour in seven of the 16 most recent games he has played.

In addition to the four weekly Canadian honours so far this season, Cornish was the CFL’s top Canadian in August and the top offensive player in Week 7.

Cornish’s latest accolade comes on the heels of a strong performance in the Stampeders’ 31-30 Labour Day Classic victory over the Edmonton Eskimos. The 27-year-old New Westminster, B.C., product carried the ball 13 times for 71 yards for an average of 5.5 yards per rush. He also had four receptions for 23 yards including a 10-yard touchdown catch.

For the season, Cornish has 642 rushing yards and trails the league leader by just six yards.
