Fresh off the heels of being named Canadian player of the week for Week 9, Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish has been named Canadian player of the month for August.
In three games during the month of August, Cornish ran for 372 yards on 56 carries — an average of 6.6 yards per carry — and one touchdown. The Stamps went 2-1 in those games and, in the Calgary victories, Cornish had 170 yards rushing (against Hamilton) and 159 yards (against Saskatchewan).
Cornish added 75 yards on eight receptions in the three games.
In addition to being named Canadian player of the month for August, Cornish has been named the top Canadian player in Weeks 1, 7 and 9 as well as the top offensive player in Week 7. Going back to Week 14 of the 2011 season, Cornish has been voted the Canadian player of the week six times in 15 games.
