One of the Canadian Football League’s great traditions will be renewed on Monday, Sept. 3 at McMahon Stadium.
It’s the Labour Day Classic, presented by Jayman, as the Stampeders play host to the Edmonton Eskimos. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m.
This is the 57th Labour Day Classic contest to be played in Calgary and the 47th against the Eskimos. Calgary and Edmonton have met at McMahon on the first day of September every season since 1981, with the clubs each winning 15 times over those 30 years.
In addition to the tradition behind the Labour Day Classic, the clash is usually an important one in the West Division standings and this year is no exception. Calgary (4-4) is looking to build on the momentum of Saturday’s 17-10 victory in Regina and would take possession of second place in the West with a win over Edmonton (5-3).
Stamps running back Jon Cornish has been in fine form in recent weeks as he has taken over the CFL lead with 571 rushing yards. Cornish has averaged 124 yards on the ground in the past three games including single-game totals of 170 yards on Aug. 9 in Hamilton and 159 yards on Aug. 25 at Saskatchewan.
