The peculiar feeling of walking into Regina’s Mosaic Stadium as a member of the visiting team has faded away for Stampeders linebacker/defensive back Tad Kornegay.

Twice last season as a member of the BC Lions he paid a visit to the city he called home for four-plus seasons.

“It was a little weird when I first played there (as a visitor),” Kornegay admitted, “but now it’s just another game.”

That next “just another game” takes place on Saturday afternoon as the Stamps face the Roughriders in a 1 p.m. affair. It’s a battle of 3-4 clubs looking to avoid a loss that would result in sole occupancy of the West Division cellar.

While the Stamps have had an erratic season of ups and downs, the Riders have experienced one massive swing with three wins to start the year followed by a current four-game losing streak.

“You want to keep them down,” said Kornegay. “Because when Saskatchewan is up and they’re rolling, it’s hard to beat them.

“I think they’re going to give you everything they can. They’re down right now and they’re in a slump they don’t want to be in. Nobody wants to lose four in a row. I know they’re going to come out with a lot of intensity and they’re going to give us their all.”

The Stamps defence will be facing Darian Durant, the Roughriders’ starting quarterback who has been picked off seven times in the past four games after having zero interceptions during the early-season winning streak.

Kornegay isn’t about to underestimate his former teammate.

“Darian?” he said. “I know him and I know he believes they’re going to bounce back no matter how many losses they have and he’s going to be ready to go.”

Thursday, incidentally, marked the one-month anniversary of Kornegay’s signing with the Stampeders.

“I’m pretty much evolving into being a Stampeder,” he said. “The guys have accepted me and welcomed me very well.”
