Last week’s win in Hamilton was an important one for us.
The bye week gave us time to collect our thoughts as a team and individually and figure out what we needed to do to come back and get that win. And we obviously did.
It wasn’t the prettiest — it was a rainy, sloppy game — but we came out on top and that’s always the best way to come out after a bye week.
Personally, I feel like I’ve picked it up really well since I arrived here two months ago. The guys here — all the DBs and linebackers and all the vets — are helping me out with any questions I have. I can go to anyone for help and I feel like I’m adjusting quite well. I’m getting quite a bit of playing time, so obviously they’re showing faith in me and I’ve got to keep moving forward and getting better every day.
With the injuries we’ve suffered in the secondary, it’s been a challenge with all the shuffling around we’ve had to do. In the last game, I started on the corner and then switched to halfback after Brandon Smith got hurt.
Actually, before we went on break, Coach Missick gave me a playbook and told me to learn every position. Luckily, it was just at the right time considering what happened in the first game after the break. Of course, I was on Keon’s side after the switch so he helped me out and I think everything went smooth.
As for my path to the CFL, I was drafted in the sixth round by Dallas in 2010. I went through training camp and got released there. Then I went to Houston for about four weeks, then I went to Philly for about a year-and-a-half.
I was off for a year and then, two months ago, the Stamps called me up and gave me an opportunity. It’s been a blessing coming here and being able to play.
During my year off, I was weighing my options in regards to my future. I had just recently gotten married so I needed to make sure I could financially support my wife. I was actually looking at other jobs just before they called me, so I put everything on hold to come up here. I feel like it was a good decision and I’m enjoying my experience here.
