Kornegay meets the media

Veteran defensive back Tad Kornegay met with the media on Monday following his first practice with the Stampeders.

His reaction to getting a call from the Stamps:

I was extremely happy. I was at home sitting for the last four weeks and waiting for a phone call and Calgary made my day. So here I am.

On what he brings to the team:

They know I can make plays on the field and I can definitely help out the team. I think I’m a quality vet who can help out. Right now, there are a lot of young guys in the secondary — very good quality guys, I’ve noticed. I have a lot of knowledge of the game and I can just whatever I can to help them out and to help us win games.

On his past  Twitter “feud” with Nik Lewis:

It’s always been fun. We made it seem like it was serious. We started it in 2009 and it’s always been fun and games and we’re pretty good friends. It’s a little bit different being in the same locker-room as him because I don’t know who to argue with now.

On why he was unemployed for the first month of the CFL season:

I have no clue. I think the whole league has asked me. I got phone calls from my former teammates asking: “Why are you still home?” I have no clue but I’m happy I’m here now.

On his level of conditioning:

I’ve been definitely keeping in shape. I train guys getting ready for the NFL so I’m always in the gym. I’m definitely in shape and ready to go.

On his activities while waiting for a chance to return to the CFL:

I did enjoy the time with my family — I haven’t been home in the summer for the last eight years — but I told myself, “It’s time to go. I’ve got to get out of here — let’s go play some football.
