Lewis: We found a way

To be perfectly honest, I think we played terrible for over half the game. We won the game but I believe we are a much better team than we showed tonight.

Penalties continue to kill us. We know we need to have better discipline — that’s something we are going to have to continue to work at. Penalties were killing us today — we could of easily just given up but we kept fighting and fighting.

Sometimes, even when you can’t see the positive, you have to keep going because you know it’s there and we just kept pushing and finally it happened. We were rewarded with the win.

There’s a ton of faith amongst the guys in the locker-room. Defence stepped up tonight big time, gave us a chance to win. Offence stepped up at the end, put some drives together and got us the win.

It was a rough 60 minutes but we just kept grinding. It makes things a lot easier in the crunch time moments when the D-line is walking downfield 30 yards because we just got a catch it makes it tough on them. It also make it easier on our O-line and gives them confidence that we can keep moving the ball.

I think the turning point came after I scored the touchdown with five minutes to play — I thanked the sidelines and everyone that helped that play happen. I could see the emotion was back in our team. They looked like they weren’t ready to quit and everyone was hungry.

Then of course Malik made a monster play with that interception that really sealed the deal. Everyone went crazy! The fans went crazy! And then Larry scored on the first play and we were able to just keep rolling.

It’s been along time since I scored three touchdowns in a game. I think I did it three times in college but this is the first time as a pro and it feels great. I have to thank my teammates for all their help tonight though because I wouldn’t have gotten any without their help.

I just do what I can to help the team win, I’m not to worried about scoring touchdowns — just getting wins for the Calgary Stampeders is all that I’m worried about.

It’s always a challenge playing Saskatchewan. You never know what’s going to happen but if you prepare right you can give yourself a chance to win, that’s all you can ask for. They played great tonight but we just got it in the end.
