Excerpts of head coach/general manager John Hufnagel’s comments to the media on Wednesday as the Stampeders prepare to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders:
I expect a very good football game tomorrow night. It’s going to be a great evening. We’re playing a very good Saskatchewan team that’s undefeated. They’re flying high and it’ll be a very emotional game on both sidelines. I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be a great challenge for our football team.
On facing Corey Chamblin, a former member of his Stampeders coaching staff:
I’m glad that Corey is doing well. He’s an excellent football coach and he’s doing a great job. I’m pleased for him.
On the discrepancy between the Stampeders’ turnover differential (minus-4) and the Roughriders’ (plus-8):
Turnovers are a strange thing. Sometimes you need to reminded how deadly they are when they do occur. You just have to have the mindset that the first thing you’re going to do is protect the football, come hell or high water. When you relax in that mindset, some bad things happen. Saskatchewan is doing an excellent job of taking care of the ball.
On the possibility that luck plays a role in turnovers:
I’m not going to say luck because when we didn’t have them, I didn’t think it was luck — I thought our guys were playing real good, solid football. That’s what Saskatchewan is doing. I’m sure every head coach in the league preaches it. Every head coach who coaches football preaches it. It’s just a key element of winning and losing.
