Kevin Glenn, who makes his first start as a member of the Stampeders on Thursday when Calgary faces the Montreal Alouettes at Percival Molson Stadium, spoke to the media on Wednesday. Here are excerpts of his comments . . .
On the Stampeders now supposedly being “his” team:
It’s the Calgary Stampeders. It’s not Kevin Glenn’s team. I’m the starting quarterback now on this team. I’m the guy who tries to hold the pieces together, the coach on the field who makes sure the guys are put in situations to make plays and score touchdowns.
On his approach to the game:
It’s one of those things where you don’t want to put any added pressure on yourself. We already have enough in this business, so my concern is just going out and playing Kevin Glenn football, which means putting guys in positions to make plays, making smart decisions, rallying the guys and using the experience and knowledge that I’ve gained over the past couple of years to get wins.
On his last game in Montreal, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ 52-44 victory in the 2011 East Division semifinal:
Wow, that was a long, long, long time ago. You think about that kind of stuff but at the same time, you’re on a different team. They have a different team, they have a different defensive coordinator. It’s still football, but it’s a different type of atmosphere. I don’t go into the situation thinking, ‘Hey, this is going to happen because this is what happened last time.’ It’s a new season. But at the same time, I’m comfortable playing at Montreal because during the past three years, I’ve played them numerous times.
On his memories of last year’s playoff game:
It was exciting. To be a semifinal game in Montreal at the Big O and for it to go down like, back and forth . . . and beat the defending champs at that time, it felt real good. I always said it was going to go down as a CFL classic game and I think it’ll stay a CFL classic forever.
