Excerpts of head coach and general manager John Hufnagel’s meeting with the media Wednesday in Montreal . . .
On the rematch with the team Calgary defeated 38-10 in Week 1:
I expect a different Montreal team with everyone on top of their game. When we played them at McMahon, we got a lucky bounce early and gained the momentum and it was tough for them to get it back. I expect a completely different type of game on Thursday night. I know that they’ll be ready to play and we need to be ready to play to have a chance to win.
On the difference it makes to have Kevin Glenn as the starting quarterback:
Each quarterback brings his own personality to the playbook. Kevin did a nice job the other (day). He completed some passes, made a mistake or two and he’ll get better. We need to become a better football team as the year goes along.
On whether any changes had to be made to the offence because of the new starting quarterback:
Not really. We had a short amount of time to game plan in the first place. We’re going into the game with basically the same type of things we’ve done over the past two weeks, plus some wrinkles we’ve installed over the last three days.
On the importance of acquiring a veteran quarterback during off-season trade discussions:
It’s something that we identified as soon as we started talking about a possible trade — that I would like to get a veteran quarterback in return. It was important, and I was very pleased that it was Kevin Glenn because he’s a veteran quarterback who’s won a lot of football games. He’s started a lot of games and had success. My first year back in the league was in 2008, so I was watching a lot of 2007 film and that’s when he had the outstanding year in Winnipeg and got his team to the Grey Cup.
On trying to duplicate the Stamps’ defensive effort from Week 1:
We need to play good defence to give ourselves a good chance to beat Montreal. They’re an explosive offensive football team. We did play good sound defence the first time and we need that same effort by our defensive football team.
On the team’s three-day stay in Kingston, Ont., between the games in Toronto and Montreal:
Kingston was very nice. It was very convenient and people were very friendly. It worked out quite well and I was very pleased with it.
