Stamps wrap up pre-season in Regina

The Stampeders conclude their 2012 pre-season schedule on Friday night as they travel to Regina’s Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Stamps are looking for a second tune-up victory after recording a 20-17 comeback win over the Edmonton Eskimos at McMahon Stadium in their first pre-season test. The Roughriders, meanwhile, were trounced 44-10 by the BC Lions at Vancouver’s BC Place in Week 1 of pre-season play.

For the Stampeders rookies, it’s one more chance to make an impression on the coaching staff and earn a precious roster spot. For the veterans, it’s either an opportunity to hold off a challenge for their jobs or to hone their game for the start of the regular season.

There will be a familiar face on the opposite sidelines as Corey Chamblin, who served as Stampeders boss John Hufnagel’s defensive backs coach for three seasons in Calgary, is in his first season as Saskatchewan’s head coach.

The game will not be televised so you can catch all the action on QR77, with Mark Stephen and Greg Peterson handling the call. The Stampeders’ Game Day Twitter account — @Stamps_Gameday — will also provide frequent updates.

The Stamps will return home to start the regular season as they will play host to the Montreal Alouettes on Canada Day — Sunday, July 1. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.
