Forzani: Getting locked in

Since this is my third season with the team, it’s changed my approach a little bit to training camp.

It doesn’t change in terms of how you physically go at it — I still work as hard as I can — but mentally I feel a lot more locked in because I’m familiar with the playbook. You don’t have to be the smartest person but, through osmosis, after two or three years, you’re going to eventually know what’s going on.

I’m not saying I’m the smartest guy in the world but I understand what my assignment is now and that allows you to play a lot faster. You don’t have to think as much and you’re not worried about making mistakes because you know your assignments.

It’s real cool to see so many of the same receivers here this year. All the guys I started with are here. We’ve got the brotherhood thing down pretty good and we’re all pretty tight. We’re at the stage where we’re hard on each other but we can take it because we’re such a tight-knit unit.

The guys who have been here a while — Nik, Romby, Rambo, Arjei, Jabari — are a good group. I came into the mix late but now I’m going into my third year and with P.C. (receivers coach Pete Costanza), he was there when I started and he was the first guy I ever worked with. It’s special; I really like having all the guys here.

It’s nice that I’m not the youngest anymore either. Anthony Parker is here and he’s eight months younger than me. So that’s good.

I’m looking forward to Friday because I’m ready to play football again. To get in there and play a game. I love those kinds of moments. I love playing in front of crowds and making plays. I’m just excited to get another opportunity to do that on Friday. It’s pre-season, but it’s still a football game.

It’s still live, it’s still full contact. They’re still evaluating and nothing is set in stone yet so it’s time to show up for everybody.
