Stamps add Lobendahn

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that import linebacker Joe Lobendahn has signed with the team. As per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Lobendahn is entering his fifth season in the CFL, having spent the past four years with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Lobendahn was Winnipeg’s starting middle linebacker and a leader of one of the league’s best defensive units in 2011 until he suffered a season-ending knee injury on Sept. 11. In the nine games prior to the inury, Lobendahn recorded 32 tackles, including five tackles for loss, two sacks, three fumble recoveries, one pass knockdown and one forced fumble.

“Joe Lobendahn was one of the league’s best linebackers last season until he suffered his knee injury,” said Hufnagel. “Joe has passed our club physical and we’re confident that he is healthy and will be a force at our upcoming training camp.”

Lobendahn started 17 games in 2010 and recorded 55 tackles, including two tackles for loss, 12 special-teams tackles and three sacks. He also returned a fumble recovery three yards for a touchdown. Lobendahn started 10 games in 2009 and made 54 tackles, including three tackles for loss, seven special-teams tackles, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

The Stampeders also announced on Monday that they have signed import offensive lineman Na’Shan Goddard and import running back Bryson Tucker.

Goddard has played professional football since 2006, most recently as a member of the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the NFL’s New York Giants in 2006 and has also been a member of the New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints. He played two games for the Seahawks in 2008. Goddard played college football at South Carolina.

Tucker signed with the Indoor Football League’s Green Bay Blizzard in 2011. He spent four seasons at Mary Hardin-Baylor, playing on offence, defence and special teams. As a senior in 2009, Tucker was named Associated Press Third-Team Little All-American. He recorded 146 tackles, including 16.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions and also returned a fumble for a touchdown.
