
A look at the Stamps 2012 draft class:
1. Ameet Pall, DL, Wofford (first round, fifth overall): Six-feet, 245 lbs. . . . Born April 28, 1987 … Montreal product played 11 games for Wofford Terriers in 2011 . . . He made 29 tackles including seven tackles for loss . . . He also had two sacks and one fumble recovery . . . In 2010, he was the Southern Conference’s defensive player of the year as voted by the coaches and media and was runner-up for the Buck Buchanan Award . . . Named first team All-Southern Conference . . . In 2010, he was third on the team with 60 tackles and led the team in tackles for loss, sacks, and quarterback hurries . . . Prior to attending Wofford, he played at Vanier College in Montreal . . . Was named MVP of the Bol d’Or in both 2006 and 2007 and also received all-league honours while at Vanier College . . . He set Vanier’s all-time sacks record.
Head coach/GM John Hufnagel says: “Ameet Pall is a consistently hard worker on the football field, in the classroom and in the weight room. He is a good leader both on the field and off the field. He will contribute to our special teams and compete at the defensive line position.”
Defensive line coach DeVone Claybrooks says: “He has great explosion and the best burst of the ball in this draft. He knows how to rush the passer. He’s an intelligent kid and never quits on a play.”
TRADE: Stamps acquire 15th overall pick in 2012 and a second-round pick in 2013 from Saskatchewan Roughriders in exchange for the 12th overall and 35th overall picks in 2012.
2. Keenan MacDougall, DB, U. Saskatchewan (third round, 15th overall): Six-foot-two, 208 lbs. . . . Saskatoon native played seven games for the Huskies in 2010 and recorded 35 tackles and two interceptions . . . He also had one kickoff return for 57 yards and one punt return for 20 yards . . . He missed the 2011 season due to injury . . . In 2009, MacDougall played in seven games and recorded 31.5 tackles and one forced fumble . . . He was a defensive MVP on his high school team and won a provincial championship.
Defensive backs coach Tony Missick says: “A good player who is very physical. He has the speed to go from sideline to sideline.”
3. Billy Peach, OL, Jacksonville (third round, 19th overall): Six-foot-five, 300 lbs. . . . Born in St. John’s, NL, and raised in Kingston, Ont. . . . After three years of high school in Canada, he moved to Florida where he played his senior season.
Offensive line coach Mike Gibson says: “Moves his feet well and has a good motor. Has played both tackle positions and shows good football awareness.”
4. Bradley Erdos, OL, Simon Fraser (fourth round, 27th overall): Six-foot-three, 285 lbs. . . . Product of Coaldale, Alta. . . . Part of a Simon Fraser offensive line that averaged 188 rushing yards per game in 2011 and allowed only 14 sacks.
5. Adam Berger, DB, Simon Fraser (fourth round, 30th overall): Six feet, 210 lbs. . . . From Surrey, B.C. . . . Played nine games in 2011 and made 46 tackles including six tackles for loss. He also had one sack, three interceptions, one fumble recovery and five pass break-ups . . . Has one year of eligibility remaining at Simon Fraser.
Defensive backs coach Tony Missick says: “He has good ball skills and speed and he finds a way to make plays. Not afraid to hit. Will be a good player.”
6. Mike Filer, OL, Mount Allison (fifth round, 31st overall): Six-foot-two, 300 lbs. . . . Hails from Brampton, Ont. . . . This marks the second consecuitve year the Stamps have selected a member of the Mount Allison Mounties as in 2011 they drafted defensive lineman/linebacker Akwasi Antwi.
Offensive line coach Mike Gibson says: “Excelled at the evaluation camp. Plays hard and seems to have a good motor.”
7. Jordan Spence, DL, Eastern Oregon (sixth round, 43rd overall): Six-foot-four, 290 lbs. . . . From Langley, B.C . . . Had five tackles, including one tackle for loss, for the Mountaineers in 2011 . . . Named to the Frontier Conference All-Academic in 2011 . . . Also attended Oregon and Portland State before going to Eastern Oregon . . . Starred in football, basketball and track and field at Walnut Grove Secondary School in Langley.
8. Wilkerson DeSouza, DB, U. Toronto (sixth round, 45th overall): Five-foot-11, 227 lbs. . . . From Mississauga, Ont. . . . Led all of CIS in 2010 with 62 tackles . . . Ranked fifth in Canada and second in the Ontario conference in 2011 with 48.5 tackles . . . Also 4.5 tackles for loss one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and two pass break-ups.
Special-teams coordinator Mark Kilam says: “He makes plays and is incredibly productive. He plays with energy and is a tough guy.”
