Stamps mourn Wayne Aiken

It is with sadness that the Calgary Stampeders announce the passing of Wayne Aiken, who died peacefully on Friday, Apr. 27 at the age of 76.
 
Aiken was born in Kingston, Ont., but moved to Calgary at a young age.

He was the starting quarterback at the University of British Columbia and went on to play two seasons (1959-60) as a defensive halfback for the Stampeders.
 
Upon retirement from football, Aiken taught at Queen Elizabeth High School in Calgary. He then went on to a career in investment business and retired as vice-president at CIBC Wood Gundy in 1995.
 
Aiken is survived by his wife Brenda, daughters Karen Fawcett, Laura Mergen and Raye Lindsay, along with six grandchildren. A celebration of Aiken’s life will take place on Thursday, May 3 at the Earl Grey Golf Course (6540 20th St. SW) at 4 p.m.
