Dixon signs contract extension

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that import defensive lineman Kevin Dixon has signed a contract extension. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.DixonSt_120328.jpg

Dixon enters his second season with the Stamps, following a 2011 campaign that saw the Sebring, Fla., native play nine games. Dixon had 14 tackles, including two tackles for loss, two sacks and one forced fumble as a member of the Stamps’ defensive line last season.

He recorded his first CFL sack on Sept. 9 against the Edmonton Eskimos.

“Kevin has shown the potential to be an explosive defensive player in this league,” said Hufnagel. “I’m anxious to see him take the next step with our football club.”

Dixon started his college career at Garden City Community College in Kansas and, over the course of two seasons, recorded 76 tackles, including 16 tackles for loss, 13 sacks and two forced fumbles. He transferred to Nebraska and had 11 solo tackles, eight assisted tackles, one forced fumble and one interception with the Cornhuskers in 2007. Dixon spent the 2009 season with the Troy Trojans and was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference second team after recording 29 solo tackles, 20 assisted tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, four sacks and one pass break-up.

Dixon signed with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in April 2010 and was later released.
