Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that non-import receiver Arjei Franklin has re-signed with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“Arjei has proven his value in this league over the past six seasons,” said Hufnagel. “He has been a great leader among the receiving corps on this team. It’s great to have a veteran like Arjei helping our young receivers including Anthony Parker, Johnny Forzani and Landan Talley.”
Franklin played nine games in 2011 and recorded six receptions for 68 yards. He was on the nine-game injured list from Weeks 4 through 12 after suffering a rib injury. Franklin also contributed on special teams, starting the season as the holder for field goals and extra points and also returned four punts for 33 yards and making five special-teams tackles.
“The Stamps have always been a first-class organization and I’m excited to be back,” said Franklin. “Thanks to everyone for their support and I look forward to returning to Calgary.”
Franklin’s best season with the Stamps came in 2010 when he caught 42 passes for 523 yards and two touchdowns. Franklin’s CFL career started in 2006 as a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 2008, he caught 52 passes for the Bombers and had 620 yards (both career highs) and a touchdown.
