Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the signings of import defensive backs Jerrard Tarrant and Marvin White. As per team policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
Tarrant signed with the National Football League’s New York Giants as an undrafted free agent on July 27, 2011 and was released on Sept. 3, 2011. He played college football with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, spending time at cornerback, safety and as a punt returner. In 2009, Tarrant played 14 games and made 10 starts at cornerback, recording 58 tackles, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and six pass breakups. He also had 21 punt returns for 281 yards and two touchdowns. In 2009, Tarrant scored all four of Georgia Tech’s non-offensive touchdowns – two by punt return, one by interception return and one by fumble return.
White, meanwhile, was selected in the fourth round (114th overall) of the 2007 National Football League Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He played 27 games for Cincinnati over two seasons before being released in 2009. White split the 2009 NFL season between the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions and appeared in a total of 13 games. He re-signed with Cincinnati on Dec. 14, 2010, and played three games. He was released by the Bengals on Aug. 24, 2011. For his NFL career, White played 43 games and recorded 142 tackles and one interception. White split his college career between Texas Christian University and Kilgore College.
