Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that non-import offensive lineman Jon Gott has signed a contract extension. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Gott dressed for 17 regular-season games and the West Division semifinal in 2011 and contributed to an offensive line that allowed the Stamps to record the second-most rushing yards (2,244) in the CFL, relinquished the second-fewest sacks (34) and tied for the second-highest points average (28.4 points per game). He made a total of seven regular-season starts — playing three games at centre and at four at left guard — and also started the West semifinal at left guard.
“Jon is going into his fourth season and is quickly becoming one of the leaders on our offensive line,” said Hufnagel. “He bounced back from an injury-filled season in 2010 and was a solid contributor in 2011.”
Gott has played in 29 regular-season games and two playoff contests in his career. The Stamps selected Gott in the fifth round (35th overall) of the 2008 CFL Canadian Draft.
Gott spent four seasons with the Boise State Broncos and started at right guard in 2008, helping the offence lead the Western Athletic Conference with an average of 42.9 points per game. Boise State also led the WAC with 305.1 passing yards per game.
Gott was a two-way standout for the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Rams. He recorded 64 tackles and two sacks in 12 games as a senior.
