Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that non-import linebacker Justin Conn has signed a contract extension. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“Justin Conn did an admirable job in 2011 on special teams,” said Hufnagel. “Justin will have a great chance to develop his skills at the linebacker position by being at our training camp in June.”
Conn was selected in the sixth round (47th overall) of the 2010 CFL Canadian Draft by the Montreal Alouettes. He played one game for Montreal during the 2011 season before signing with the Stamps on Aug. 30, 2011, and playing the final 10 games of Calgary’s regular season. He recorded one tackle and three special-teams tackles.
At the university level, Conn spent four seasons with the Bishop’s Gaiters. During his senior season in 2010, Conn had 29 tackles, including 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and two interceptions in nine games.
Conn was named Fredericton High School’s male athlete of the year in 2005-06 after he helped his team win the provincial football championship. He also won provincial titles with the school’s volleyball and basketball teams.
