Cornish honoured for playoff performance

The Calgary Stampeders are pleased to announce that running back Jon Cornish has been honoured by the Canadian Football League as the top Canadian for Week 20, the first week of the CFL playoffs.Cornish250_111115.jpg

Cornish led all players with 127 yards rushing on 14 carries — an average of 9.1 yards per carry — in the Stampeders’ 33-19 loss to the Edmonton Eskimos on Sunday in the West Division semi-final. Cornish also had a rushing touchdown.
 
The Stamps finished the 2011 season with 11 player-of-the-week awards. Juwan Simpson was named top defensive player in Week 19, Johnny Forzani was top Canadian in Week 18, and Cornish was top Canadian in Week 16 and was the offensive player of the week and top Canadian in Week 14. In Week 9, Henry Burris was named top offensive player while Forzani was top Canadian.
 
Kicker Rene Paredes and kick returner Larry Taylor were named the league’s top special teams player in Weeks 2 and 6, respectively, while Jabari Arthur was voted top Canadian in Week 7.
