Simpson: We got the job done

It was a crazy game with Winnipeg tryng to come back the way they did but the Bombers didn’t get in that situation by luck. That’s a hard-working team, a resilient team, they work hard, their defence is good.

We knew it was going to be a four-quarter game. I was kind of surprised that we jumped off to the early start. But they fought back. We did a heck of a job offensively and defensively making plays when it counted. I know it wasn’t always the prettiest sight, but we took care of business when we had to.Simpson_111105.jpg

Let’s not get things mistaken. We wanted to shut them out. That was the full intention. But they made plays, too and we have to tip our hats to them. It wasn’t a complete letdown because we still came off with the “W.” But, trust me, we really wanted the shutout.

I really feel like those close losses we had last month made us a much better team. You hate to lose those close games but maybe when we get in those situations now, that feeling comes back, like we don’t want that feeling again.

Guys out there the last two minutes, we were all in it. No one had their head down and everybody felt like we were going to win.

Junior Turner made a great play on the sack-forced fumble today and he’s been playing great. He had a slow start to the season because he’s a young guy, a rookie. The last few weeks, he’s really been exploding, he’s being noticed, not just another player out there. I have high expectations from him for the remainder of this season and seasons to come. He’s a good player.

And DeVone Claybrooks is the epitome of a leader. He knows my job better than me. He knows a lot people’s jobs better than them. You know he’s going to do his job, he’s accountable and, when times get bad, you don’t always need that rah-rah guy. He’s going to say ‘let’s get this done’ and guys respect him and everybody responds well from him and other players. We have gelled well over the last few weeks as a defence.

As for the team’s situation, we understand we will play this week. It doesn’t matter if we’re at home or on the road. We’re hungry and we know what it takes to get to where we want to go.
