Claybrooks: A 15-round fight

It was a tough game, and we came through. Like Huff said, this was like a 15-round fight. We were able to survive and now we’ve got a little bit of momentum.

Just look at that play by Johnnie Dixon at the end to seal the deal. We’ve been through some growing pains with the young guys. The college season is so much shorter than the pro season and that’s an adjustment young players have to make.

That was one of the best plays Johnnie made all year. He really stepped up. They key to it was that he didn’t panic. A lot of DBs panic when the ball is in the air, but he hung in there and made a great play on the ball.

On the tackle I was able to make on the two-point convert attempt by tackling Anthony Calvillo, all I could think of is that Coach Jones is always preaching to us to lay out because you never know for sure is you’re going to be able to get close enough to get him.

It was great coverage on the back end and he didn’t have any other options but to run and we were able to make the stop.

We’ve had some growing pains on defence this season but today, we were able to close things out. Now we just have to keep doing it. You want to get that momentum going at the end of the season and into the playoffs.

We all remembered what happened in the last two road games when we had the lead late in the game. We’ve been in that situation before and we knew we didn’t have to panic. We’ve been practising for that situation all week and we knew what we had to do.

Now we have a situation where three teams are tied for first place heading into the final week of the season. We’re going to need some help if we want to finish first but all we can do is take care of business in our game against Winnipeg and then we’ll go from there.
