We need a win today. It’s a must, especially at home for our fans and also for ourselves and the team.
We just have to come out here and work hard. Last week, I don’t think all the guys had their heads in it but this week we’re focused and we’re going to come out and play like we’re supposed to.
Any defensive player takes it personally when the other team scores, no matter what the circumstances are. But you can’t dwell on it and you’ve just got to bounce back. You can’t be sitting there worrying about the play that just happened. You’ve got to get it out of your head and go out there and try and make a play.
Whether you’re on defence, special teams or offence, it’s so important that you concentrate on doing your job and avoid trying to do too much. If everybody is doing his job, then everything should work. You’ve got to go out there and work as a team and do your assignment.
We also have to communicate more, to do more talking out there on the field and work as a family.
We all know Saskatchewan likes to throw the ball deep and that’s a good challenge for a defensive back. It’s also the defensive linemen and linebackers working hard in the trenches to put pressure on the quarterback to make things easier for the defensive backs to cover.
The defensive backs have the easy part — when the ball is in the air, we just come out of our break and go catch it. Those guys up front? You’ve got to give it up to them. They’re the ones who give us the opportunity to make a play on the ball.
This is the time of the year where the weather gets colder and even though I’m a Florida guy, I’m going to be ready for whatever comes. I’m happy to be here in Calgary and I’m happy to be playing for this organization, whether it’s cold, hot or rain. No matter what, we’re going to go out there and give it all we’ve got as a team.
