I expect a physical game today against BC and I expect a close game. We know it’s going to take four quarters of effort and it’s going to take discipline on our side. We have to put the penalties aside and come out focused on our game.
It was good to get to the quarterback in our last game against Edmonton because as defensive linemen, that’s what you want. That’s your goal is to get the QB. DBs hunt for interceptions and D-linemen hunt for sacks. I was happy to get the first sack of my professional career, but I know it was a team effort.
It was a great game for us because it was a good team defensive effort — we covered on the back end and got pressure on the front end. It was just a good game for our defence as a whole.
One of the big differences from university and the CFL is that we’ve already played 10 games whereas the university teams are just starting their seasons now. I’m holding up pretty well physically. DeVone Claybrooks has been guiding me along the way and helping me take the steps to keep my body in shape and be able to combat the long season.
So I’ve been making sure to get in and out of the cold tubs and get into the treatment room when I have any nicks, doing my lifting but making sure I don’t overdo it in the weight room. The season is a marathon, not a sprint and it’s important to remember that.
It means so much as a rookie to have a veteran like DeVone who is willing to work with you and get better. Not only is he someone to look up to, but he guides you and gets you going in the right direction. He shows you how to be a professional and how to conduct yourself.
He’s on you all the time and he’s always there to remind you what you need to be doing and teaching you things to help you improve. He’s been so helpful.
DeVone knows the game inside and out. Shoot, he calls out coverages in meetings. He’s a very intelligent guy with a high football IQ. I’m very grateful to him.
