The Calgary Stampeders are pleased to announce that quarterback Henry Burris and receiver Johnny Forzani have been named Canadian Football League players of the month for August.
Burris is the offensive player of the month while Forzani was voted top Canadian.
Burris led the Stamps to a 3-0 record in August as he threw for 1,081 yards and completed 74 of 110 passes, a 67.3-per cent accuracy rate. He threw for seven touchdowns and zero interceptions and turned in an eye-popping quarterback rating of 120.3. He also carried the ball six times for 59 yards and one touchdown — the game-winning score in the Aug. 27 victory over the Montreal Alouettes.
This is the fifth time in his Stamps career that Burris has been named the CFL’s offensive player of the month.
Forzani’s breakout season continued in August as the 22-year-old Calgarian made 10 receptions for 225 yards in the three games. His 22.5-yard average per catch during the month included two receptions that went for more than 40 yards. Forzani recorded the first two touchdowns of his professional career in the Stamps’ Aug. 27 win over Montreal. With six catches for 101 yards and the two majors against the Alouettes, Forzani was named the CFL’s top Canadian for Week 9.
Forzani is the first Stampeders player to be honoured as the CFL’s Canadian player of the month since the award was instituted in 2007.
